The backing material is a fairly stiff and very durable Mylar sheet. It has the advantage that it is only ever bent in one plane. This maintains a sharp grinding surface and defined edges on the hammer heads. It does not stretch and never tears. The grits themselves are made of aluminum oxide - a sharp and durable abrasive. The grains are micro-sorted by size with the utmost precision! This results in an aggressive cut yet smooth finish. Microfinish foil is indicated by the grit size in microns, e.g. 100µ, 60µ etc. This material is available in 100µ, 60µ, 40µ and 15µ grit, which corresponds to 100, 200, 320 and 600 grit for fine polishing of the strinking surface of the hammerhead. The amazing performance and durability of this material make it the abrasive of choice for hammerhead shaping. Ultimately, it is very cheap to use and this material will outlast any type of sandpaper!
